Club News and Updates
A warm sun and light breeze welcomed garden club attendees to our August meeting, held at the home of Birgitta Brophy. Guests were welcomed with snacks and then provided a little background as to how and why the gardens were developed as they currently exist. Then the group walked the modest property to also see a newly established and in-progress shade garden, vegetable garden and pond area plantings.
Agenda items discussed at the August meeting included a briefing on the Andes Central School CROP activity “It’s a Plant’s Life” held in July at Ballantine Park. The children certainly enjoyed seeing food coloring being absorbed into the white carnation flowers and using the magnifying glasses supplied to them. Congratulations was given to members who worked on the Andes Garden Club float which was awarded “Most Creative Float” and we all got to see the new trophy. Updates on activities planned for the fall were provided. Everyone is encouraged to see the updates on activities on the website and Facebook page: See links at the end of this column.
