Andes students are back from Winter break and ready to Spring into Spring! That was the theme of our recent Spirit Meet at Andes Central School! With the clocks going forward our students are happy to have it light outside later in the day. We recently enjoyed what may have been our last Ski Friday. But, Spring or no Spring, we are all hoping for just a little more snow so we can squeeze just one more in…But if that doesn’t happen, it’s on to more Spring fun, like outdoor recess and Spring sports. Watch for future highlights about our Tennis Team.

Some special spotlights from our recent Spirit Meet included a Pi Day presentation by members of the Geometry class: Lilly Temple, Gavyn Mahon and Gabby Bene. They taught their fellow schoolmates about the meaning of Pi, and created a fun-filled Q and A Multiple Choice Quiz with audience participation. The students learned many important facts, and of course, had a good time playing along. A Spring poem was recited by our Pre-K students with great enthusiasm. They wore self-created signs of Spring, including bees, flowers and birds. As might be expected, they were especially adorable! A wonderful video highlighting Ski Friday was created by Sasha Sazonov and shared with the community. The students were excited to see themselves on film, and it was well-received by staff and students alike.

Last month on March 15th the school staff came together for a Superintendent’s Conference Day.  This is a day dedicated to professional sharing and learning. The theme was centered on creating a collaborative teaching and learning community, with an emphasis placed on building a professional culture marked by a results orientation.  Beyond the professional conversations and planning, there was a delicious communal lunch with staff bringing in dishes to share with their colleagues. We look forward to carrying forward our plans for professional growth!

Our teachers are working hard along with Andes School Principal Chris Aguirre to update our Student Handbook, Faculty Handbook, and Code of Conduct. There are faculty volunteers to each of the committees. Interested parents of Andes School children can reach out to Mr. Aguirre directly if they would like to participate on one of the committees updating those important school-based documents.
