Happy Holidays to our wonderful Andes community from the Andes Public Library Board of Trustees and staff! We are so happy to serve you! We hope you have a wonderful, safe holiday season!
‘Tis the Season of Giving
If you have enjoyed our library this year, whether it be for books and movies, Song & Story time, fax/copying, or print services, or just attending one of our community events, please consider making a tax deductible gift. Donor packets are available at the circulation desk, or you can drop off a check or mail it to the Andes Public Library, PO Box 116, Andes, NY 13731.
One third of our operating costs come from our annual donations from members of the community. Inflation has been hard on us, as it has been with everyone, so the cost of everything has gone up. In addition, due to the unfunded mandate of every New York library being online, we have over doubled our circulation by providing our items to patrons of the other forty-three libraries in the Four County System. This is a good problem to have, but we have had to increase our staff to handle the workload. Monetary gifts of any amount are greatly appreciated!
Sale Books for the Holidays!
I love the Icelandic tradition of giving books to family members on Christmas Eve and then spending the night reading. Over the last few years, I have taken advantage of the book sale at the library to pick out one or two books for each of my extended family members and I donate $30-$50 for the lot. The library has limited space and we are continually discarding books to make room for new ones. Currently, we also have a large number of Gloria Carlson’s books upstairs as well. Please come fill a bag for a donation!
Holiday Song & Story!
Live, in person Song & Story time continues to be a favorite among local children Tuesdays at 3:30 pm. I will be focusing on holiday songs and stories up until Christmas, so bring the tots for some fun singing, dancing, and instrument play! While you’re there, you can view our wonderful murals, created by Diane Lockspeiser, including the new mural in progress in the children’s room.
Holiday & Winter Schedule:
We plan to be open on December 23rd and December 26th, closing only on Christmas, Monday, December 25th. We will also close on New Year’s Day.
Moving forward through the Winter, we keep the same hours, except the library is closed during extreme weather (ice, snow accumulation). Check our Facebook page for updates, but if Andes Central School is closed for weather, we close automatically. If in question, please feel free to call the library at 845-676-3333 to see if someone is at the desk.
Happy Holy Days! May peace reign on earth…goodwill to all!~
