Happy Summer!
July is always a busy month here at the Andes Library. We are excited to welcome back our snowbirds and many visitors who make Andes their Summer home. This year, we are taking part in the Four County Library Road Trip.
The Road Trip will take place from July 1st to September 2nd, 2023. To accept the challenge, see how many of our system’s libraries you can visit by the end of the summer! You can start the road trip at any time. Just stop by one of our libraries and pick up a brochure!
The Four County Library System is made up of 42 libraries across Broome, Chenango, Delaware and Otsego Counties. Be sure to check out each library’s page to see their address, hours, unique facts about their library, as well as local points of interest in their community!
Here are some Frequently Asked Questions:
Does each individual need their own brochure for stamps? No, families and groups traveling together are welcome to share one brochure to collect their stamps. Each individual is still eligible for their own prize.
Do I have to visit the libraries in any particular order? Not at all! You can start the Road Trip at any one of the Four County Library System member libraries and go in whatever order you’d like!
Do I need a library card to participate in the Road Trip? You don’t need a library card to participate in the Road Trip, but we bet you’ll want to sign up for one after seeing all the wonderful libraries in our system!
What do I do when I arrive at a library? When you visit a library, stop by the front desk and ask for a Road Trip stamp (or look for the stamping station), and then explore the library and its surrounding area! At Milestone Stops (10, 20, 30 and 42 libraries), you’ll also be eligible to pick up a prize!
How do I get my prizes? At your Milestone Stops (10th library visited, 20th library visited, 30th library visited and 42nd library visited), you’ll be eligible to pick up a prize! Prizes will be available at all libraries. If the library is temporarily out of the prize, you can receive one at your next stop, or return to that library after their prizes have been replenished.
How can I share my adventures on social media? We’d love to see the photos from your Road Trip travels! Be sure to use the hashtag #4CLSRoadTrip on your posts so we can like them!
What do I do if I lose my brochure? If you lose your brochure, ask the library staff at your next stop for a new one, and let them know which libraries you’d already visited so they can stamp those stops too.
It says you have 42 libraries, but I see 43 libraries listed! The Sidney Memorial Public Library has one library branch in Masonville. You’re welcome to visit both libraries, but you’ll only need to visit one of them to count as a visit to Sidney!
Extra Stop! Four County Library System Bookmobile The Four County Library System also has a Bookmobile that travels throughout the counties every month. For an extra stamp (and a special prize!) you can visit the Bookmobile at one of its monthly stops.
Song & Story Time – Tuesdays @ 3:30
We have been having Song and Story Time most Tuesdays, returning to the 3:30 time, which works for many of our families who have 3 pm pick up times at the various summer day camps in the area. Come join us for music and movement, instrument play, and age appropriate stories. We will be closed on Tuesday, July 4th, but otherwise we hope to see you and your little ones on July 11th, 18th, and 25th.
Ongoing Book Sale
Due to the sheer amount of overflow, weeded items, and donations, we have to get rid of our sale items. Everything on the porch is FREE and you are welcome to fill a bag for a donation of the upstairs DVDs, audio books, and better quality books. Please come take a look and take some of it off of our hands. When shopping upstairs, please keep in mind that the toys, games, and art/gardening/cookbooks and home improvement books are NOT for sale.
All Together Now! Summer Reading Program – Save the dates!
This year’s summer reading program will focus on involving the local youth in our planning and initial planting of the library’s new Edible Landscape. We collaborate with Andes Central School’s Summer program and this year, thirty-three youth from the school, plus any other local children are welcome to join us. Because of the number of children coming from the school, we recommend that if you are not part of that program, but you want your children to attend, please call 845-676-3333 or email an.ill@4cls.org to pre-register. We are giving each child a little garden kit with gloves, pollinator seeds, a hand tool, and other special items, so we want to be sure we have enough on hand. Also due to the numbers, we will most likely split the group into K-3 from 11:15 – 11:45 and 4th – 8th graders from 11:50 to 12:30. For full program descriptions, please visit our website: www.andeslibrary.org.
