JACK McSHANE BIDS ADIEU – November 2021

Jack McShane has bid Adieu to his monthly Gazette column Field Notes after 12 years of faithful contributions chronicling the wildlife observed on his Bussey Hollow property, interspersed with his reminiscences and personal philosophies on the relationship of human life to the natural world, and on life in general. His articles, widely enjoyed over the years, are archived on our website: www.andesgazette.net. If you would like to refer to his past pieces you can search by Jack’s name or by an appropriate word or phrase.

“IN HIS OWN WORDS”

When I was younger I was a surfer living in a beachfront apartment in Long Beach NY. Each morning I would look at the surf from my window. If the surf was up I was “stoked” (surfer lingo), excited to go surfing. Now at 83 I am “stroked” at this time, living in the past in my mind. I miss my writings, my forest and the wildlife.~
