LIBRARY NOTES–MARCH 2021

By Pamela West-Finkle

The month of February is traditionally spent doing the New York State Library Final Report. Despite the pandemic lockdown and our move back to our permanent location after our renovation, we still served almost 2,000 people in 2020, circulated almost 3,000 books, audiobooks, and DVDs, and we provided over 100 curbside/porch pickup services. In addition, we provided 41 online prerecorded story time videos that received a total of over 18,500 views from March to December. Finally, we want to express a huge thank you to all of our patrons and visitors who made a tax deductible contribution in 2020! Your support is greatly appreciated!

Speaking of Story Time, I mentioned in my last Library Notes to tune in to our Facebook page for a live online story time Wednesdays at 11 am.  I have since had to make some adjustments as I usually record my videos without a mask when the library is closed. Because I am the only staff member on duty at 11 am on Wednesdays and I have to wear my mask during our open hours, I cannot do the Story and Song program at that time.  I am hoping to start doing them again consistently at 10:30 am on Wednesdays.  For weeks that I am unable to make this happen, I will try to upload a prerecorded video.

One item of housekeeping I wanted to mention:  During the Winter months, please be sure to wipe your feet well when entering the library.  I am in the process of procuring more commercial floor mats, but the salt from the parking lot, ramp and porch is not doing our new floor any favors.  On busy days, I find myself mopping sometimes three or four times during the day.  Also, we prefer that strollers full of slush and salt stay outside on the porch, with children being brought into the library. Thank you so much!

Lastly, if anyone needs assistance filling out or printing any forms related to Covid vaccinations or anything else requiring online forms and registrations, printing, faxing, scanning, please call 845-676-3333 or email an.ill@4cls.org any time Monday through Thursday and I will be happy to assist you with these tasks. I am also looking for more volunteers to help at the library—computer skills are a huge plus!  Have a great March!  Spring is just around the corner!~
