By Robert L. Chakar, Jr., Ed.D., Superintendent

We would like to welcome new staff members to Andes Central School this year.

Nicole VanGlad graduated from Jefferson Central School, where she had attended since Kindergarten. She then attended The College of Saint Rose where she majored in music education. Upon graduating, Nicole relocated to Virginia where she taught music in a small private school. She then returned home and taught in Cobleskill-Richmondville. She is happy to be back in a small school and a part of the Andes community. Nicole is our new Music Teacher.

Jennifer Andrews graduated from Andes Central School in 2014. She earned an Associates Degree in Science of Liberal Arts & Sciences in December 2016 and a Bachelor of Business Administration in Event Management in December 2019, from the State University of New York at Delhi. While earning both of these degrees she was a member of the honors program and Phi Eta Sigma Honor Society. She was also a recipient of the Presidential Scholarship, which required maintenance of a 3.3 GPA and enrollment in an honor class each semester. “This is my first job as a college graduate and I am enjoying it immensely!  I am so glad to be back at Andes Central School, it feels like coming home!” Jennifer is our new Teacher Aide.

For the past seven years, Maureen Burton was employed by Roxbury Central School as a School Counselor and Instructional Support Team Coordinator for middle and high school. Prior to her position with Roxbury Central School, she was employed at Delaware County Mental Health Clinic as a clinical case manager. She is also currently an adjunct Psychology professor with Tompkins Cortland Community College. Maureen is Dean of Students, CSE/CPSE Chairperson.

Morgan Sullivan graduated from SUNY Oneonta in the Spring of 2020. Her major was Early Childhood and Childhood Education. Previously she worked as a substitute teacher and at a daycare center. This is her first-year teaching at Andes Central School. She is also from Andes, and graduated from Andes Central School in 2016.  Morgan is our new 3rd grade teacher.

Kira Mahon is a graduate of Deposit Central School and has lived in Andes for the last seven years.  Kira has 3 children attending Andes Central School and is very happy to be working in our school cafeteria.

Using proper social distancing protocol and following DOH guidelines, the 12th Annual Evening of Excellence was held on Thursday, October 8th, 2020.  This is to recognize those students who maintained an average of 90% or higher during the 2018-19 school year.  Those students honored this year were Sierra Barrett, Emily Andersen, Rylee Burton, Katie Edelson, Lila Green, Dusty Richards, Christina Chakar, Ava McIntosh and Shane Edwards. We would like to congratulate these students for all their hard work and accomplishments.  We would also like to thank Rosalino’s Diner for catering the event and providing the delicious meal, and thank you to Laurie Day for providing dessert.~
