TOWN BOARD ROUNDUP – April 2020

By Peter Calvert

The Andes Town Board met March 10th at 6 pm. Artie Short, Building Inspector, reported on 8 permits, 5 inspections, 1 certificate of occupancy issued and 6 C of O searches underway.

Supervisor Bud Gladstone received notice from NYS DOH on steps regarding the coronavirus and safety steps to help prevent spreading. The Town will continue to update residents for ongoing health advice via email and the website.

For the Well Project, Bud met with Glendenning, adjoining landowner, about a land ownership/control buffer required by NY State Dept. of Health. It looks like it will be granted.

Bud discussed with Cedarwood Engineering how to move forward with setting the timeline for the well. He met with Robyn Ciccone of the Chamber of Commerce, as they are looking for more members, and he also met with Matt Sluiter, Sluiter Agency, to discuss the insurance claim stemming from the fire at the highway garage.
The Annual Andes Litter Pickup will be Wednesday, April 15th (Rain Date Thurs. April 16th) and Saturday April 18th (Rain Date Saturday April 25th).  DOT will pick up the bags of collected garbage with the advice of organizer Ann Roberti. Catskill Rec Center is planning an annual bike ride through parts of Andes, Cross Road Mountain and Beech Hill Road on April 25th.

Bud will be meeting with Delaware County Soil and Water District and the Andes School staff regarding the stone wall with the partial collapse in front of the school. Design work needs to be done but repair work is not likely to be completed prior to 2021.

Highway Superintendent Bouton presented descriptions and rationale for three vehicles the Town could purchase within the equipment budget and the Council members had a lengthy discussion on the procedure, budget and merits of the three requested vehicles. They authorized buying a 6 by 6 Snowplow for $255K, and Authorized Superintendent Bouton to put the other two vehicle purchase requests out to bid: a pickup truck that could accommodate a plow and a mower/tractor to help keep the roadside brush and grass under control. The Board adjourned at 7:40 pm.~
