Thank you to our wonderful friends of the library for supporting our Annual Views and Vistas Garden tour, held on July 13th.. It was a beautiful summer day and we raised over $500 for the library. Thank you especially to those who put their beautiful properties on display, welcoming visitors throughout the day!
Please Excuse Our Discombobulation – Getting ready for the move!
Over the next month, staff, volunteers, and even our local CROP students are moving and packing books in preparation for our big move at the end of August and early September. We are temporarily relocating to the Blink Gallery on Main Street while our construction project takes place.
We need boxes and people able to lift and carry those boxes. Non-essential, low circulation items are going to be taken to the CitiHope storage space throughout the next month. The Young Adult section has temporarily been moved upstairs and the community room is being turned into a big book sale space that will be ongoing until we move so that we can distribute as many sale books as possible. Paperbacks, children and young adult books, and a smattering of non-fiction can be found on the porch, while hardcover fiction and non-fiction will be on the shelves of the community room.
Andes Community Day – Saturday August 10th
As always, the library will be open until 4 pm on Andes Community Day, hoping to attract book lovers for our huge annual sale. That day you can fill a bag for a donation of your choice. I know many people are trying to donate their book collections, but please contact the library before dropping off boxes of book donations on the porch. We are already overloaded with more books than we could ever have space for and moldy, stained, falling apart, or outdated non-fiction books will not be accepted.
Navy Band in Concert – Wednesday August 21st at 7:00 pm – Delaware Academy
We are sponsoring an amazing concert at Delaware Academy High School on Wednesday, August 21st at 7 pm. Kari Haugeto and I, having been military musicians ourselves, decided to see if we could get the National U.S. Naval Bluegrass/Country Band to come visit Andes in celebration of our Bicentennial. They got back to us to confirm they would be able to make us a stop on their national tour, but they required a large venue for the concert. Delaware Academy was happy to be our host venue.
Tickets are FREE and are available at our library as well as various Four County Libraries and local establishments in the area, including churches and veterans groups. If you cannot physically pick up the tickets, please email an.ill@4cls.org or call 845-676-3333 with your full name, contact information, and the number of tickets you will need. We promise you will not be disappointed! This seven piece ensemble has performed for presidents and dignitaries, national sporting events, and the caliber of music you will hear will blow you away! Military musicians serve as public relations specialists for the Armed Forces, practicing their repertoire all day, every day when they are not on tour or giving performances in Washington D.C.
Enjoy the rest of your summer and please reach out if you are able and willing to help with our big move!~
