MOUNTAINEER TRACKS – July 2019

By Robert L. Chakar, Jr., Ed.D., Superintendent

On Monday, June 10th, we were finally able to celebrate the opening of our front pedestrian bridge with a “ribbon cutting ceremony” with Senator James Seward present. Senator Seward helped secure funding to help pay for the repairs made to the bridge and we were happy that he could join us for the ribbon cutting so that we could thank him for his efforts.  It is a real pleasure to finally be able to once again walk across the bridge.

We have had some work started with the capital building project, but the bulk of the work will start as soon as school is out for the summer. We are excited to be able to finally get started and to see all the improvements that will be made to our beautiful building.

This year we began what we hope will remain an annual event at ACS. In May we celebrated “Muffins with Mom” and in June we celebrated “Donuts with Dad.” Moms and dads of all elementary students were invited to come enjoy breakfast with their children. Grandmothers, aunts, grandfathers, uncles, family friends or staff members also filled in when parents were not available. We had a packed house each day and everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves.  Thank you to Elaine Smith for the great idea and for taking charge in organizing the events and to Laurie Day and her cafeteria staff for their help in preparing the meals.

Our annual “Academic Banquet” took place on Friday, June 14th.  All students in grades 5-12 who made Honor Roll, High Honor Roll, or Superintendent’s List at least once during the school year received a trophy and certificate and enjoyed a delicious meal from Brooks BBQ with their families. As always, it was a fun evening celebrating the achievements of our students. ~
