We’re happy to report that, at the regularly scheduled Board of Education meeting held on Thursday, February 21st, Mrs. Alice DeVita was appointed as a trustee to the Board of Education, to fill the seat left vacant by Mr. Gerry Murphy. Mrs. DeVita was appointed to fill out the 2018-19 school year.

We’re also excited that it is time to register children for PreK and Kindergarten for the 2019-20 school year. If your child will turn 4 years old by December 1, 2019, they will be eligible for PreK; if they will turn 5 by December 1, 2019, they will be eligible for Kindergarten. If you do not receive a registration packet in the mail, please contact the school.  All registration materials will be due back by Friday, April 12th  by 3 pm  An orientation will be held in the summer before school starts.

Our Drama Club will present The Wizard of Oz on Friday, April 5 and Saturday April 6 at 7 pm Admission will be $7.00 for adults, $5.00 for Students and Senior Citizens and Free for children under 5. We hope you come support our students and enjoy the show.

As Andes moves through the month of March and into April, the Board of Education has been working diligently in finalizing a school budget for the community to vote on in May. As you may recall, the term “2% tax levy,” is really a “2% adjusted school tax levy.” Meaning, the amount of money that a school can request is based on an 8-step formula unique to its district. Currently, under the Governor’s levy limit, and under a simple majority vote, Andes will be allowed to request of its community a tax levy increase of  6.70%.

As we finalize our budget request to the community, we are faced with State Aid funding similar to years past. As always, your suggestions, questions, or comments are appreciated.  Kindly feel free to contact my office at 676-3166 ext. 103. At Andes, our community of learners thanks you for your continued support of our children.~
