Signs of Spring are gradually peeking through as the robins and geese return, the snow recedes to reveal the brown earth and all things buried months ago. (We discovered our missing sled and a winter cap in my yard.) The Annual Seed Swap sponsored by Transition Catskills is going on at the library, so if you wish to take a sampling of the seeds we have on hand, or leave a sampling from your own collection, please stop by during open hours.
We hope to bring in Spring with song, so please join us Thursday, April 11th at 5:30 pm for a Spring Sing-a-long with Kari Haugeto. Kari provides lyric songbooks, awards prizes, and leads a fun-filled evening of community song and humor. Light refreshments are served.
The library has decided to help kick off the Andes Bicentennial Celebration with an all ages COMMUNITY BARN DANCE at Andes Central School (note: not at the library due to lack of space). Please save the date of Friday, May 17th for an all ages community barn dance led by the Homespun Community Music performance group, Peter, Paul, and George. (www.homespun.biz is their website). The event is made possible by a youth grant from the O’Connor Foundation. The event is free and open to all but donations to the library are greatly appreciated!
As always, Gloria Carlson does a fantastic job at acquiring new and current materials for our library. We are always open to suggestions for things to add to our lending library, and if we can’t get it for our library, we can always order it for you or show you how to order your own items from www.4cls.org. All you need is your library card number and your four digit PIN, and you have over 4 million items at your fingertips, plus ebooks, audio books, magazines, research, language learning, and more.
Recently, we acquired the Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper version of A Star is Born. We also have the Barbara Streisand version and the Judy Garland version. It’s worth watching all three for a comparison/contrast.
We also have the award-winning Bohemian Rhapsody, the story of Freddie Mercury and the band Queen. Come check out our great video music/music-related movie collection, located in the shelves directly across from the audio books facing the circulation desk, in addition to our 2,000 other movies and television series offerings, plus a wonderful children’s and teen’s collection. Check our new books and movies lists for our new titles.
Tax day is right around the corner. If you still haven’t filed and need New York State forms or need help getting federal tax forms online, contact me Monday through Thursday. The New York State tax forms are in a box directly ahead of the front entrance.
May your April be filled with tulips and daffodils and good books to read!~
