MOUNTAINEER TRACKS – JANUARY 2019

By Robert L. Chakar, Jr., Ed.D

On Friday, December 7th we hosted our Annual Senior Citizens’ Christmas Dinner. Many Andes residents over the age of 55 joined us for a wonderful turkey dinner prepared by Mrs. Laurie Day and her cafeteria staff, Ms. Julie Nelson and Ms. Angela Davila-Maxwell. Mrs. Kathy Whittaker organized students to greet and serve our visitors while Ms. Kellie Daino, our music teacher, and her elementary music students in grades K – 6 entertained everyone with some Christmas music. We always enjoy being able to give back to our senior citizens for their support throughout the year, and hope that they all enjoyed the afternoon as well.

On Monday, December 10th our students performed their annual Winter Concert under the direction of our music director, Ms. Kellie Daino. Students from grades K-12 participated in a wonderful holiday program.

On November 16th and 17th, Jay Camuti attended the Area All-State Music Festival. In order to participate, students perform solos at NYSSMA. Students who receive the best scores on the highest levels of NYSSMA solos are selected to participate in Area-All State. Students from all over Zone 8 of New York then come together and perform in large ensembles.

Mr. Andrew Amodeo, our Academic Team advisor, is preparing our academic team for their competition on Tuesday, January 8th, 2019. This year’s team consists of Michaela Valkavich, Jedah Grapes, Mazzy Williams, Britney Davila, Lea Edelson and Emily Andersen. They will compete against schools from Delaware, Chenango and Otsego counties.

Everyone at ACS would like to wish you all a very happy New Year and hope that 2019 brings good health and happiness to you all.~
