MOUNTAINEER TRACKS – December 2018

By Robert L. Chakar, Jr., Ed.D,

On November 9th & 10th our Andes Central School Drama Club presented the musical Captain Louie, Jr.. Andes is extremely lucky and proud to have many very talented students as well as many staff and community members who are willing to give up so much of their own time and talents.  A huge thank you goes to Elaine Peck, John Bernhardt, Kellie Daino and Lisa Valkavich for all the time that they gave to direct this amazing performance. Also, a huge thank you to Sharon Tucker and her art classes, who were responsible for the set and most of the props and costumes.

On Wednesday, November 14th, Andes Central School took a school-wide field trip to NYC to see the Broadway show, Frozen. This trip was made possible, in part, by our Arts in Education funding. We also received a grant from the O’Connor Foundation to help with the cost of the trip. Thank you to Mrs. Sharon Tucker for all her hard work in making this trip possible and to the ACS PTSA for providing snacks for the long bus ride. As always, we stopped at the Mid-Hudson Buffet on the way home for dinner.  It was an amazing day!!!

We were very honored to be able to host some of our Andes Veterans for a luncheon and entertainment on Tuesday, November 13th. It was a privilege to be able to recognize them for their service to our country.

On November 16th & 17th, Jay Camuti attended the Area All-State Music Festival. In order to participate, students perform solos at NYSSMA. Students who receive the best scores on the highest levels of NYSSMA solos are selected to participate in Area-All State. Students from all over Zone 8 of New York then come together and perform in large ensembles. Congratulations Jay!

We will once again be hosting our senior citizens for a holiday dinner on Friday, December 7th at 1 pm for any Andes resident age 55 or older. This is a way for us to show our appreciation for all of your support through the years and the entire school looks forward to this day. If you would like to attend the dinner, please call the school and leave us your name so we can be sure and prepare enough food.

Our music department will be presenting their winter concert in December. On Monday, December 10th our elementary and high school students will present their winter concert at 7 pm.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a wonderful holiday season!  Enjoy your time with family and friends.~
