We had glorious summer weather for our Ice Cream Social and Garden Tour. Thank you to everyone who came and participated in our community fundraisers for the library, and to our organizers and volunteers who helped to make the events a success! Special thanks goes out to the members of the Andes Community who so graciously invited our Garden Tour guests to view their beautiful views and vistas.

Also starting Wednesday, August 1st is a Writers in the Mountains Fiction Writing workshop with Ginnah Howard. If you have a short story or novel that you’re ready to have critiqued, memoir pieces, or ideas for a story that you want to begin, this class is for both new and more practiced fiction writers. There will be six sessions held 1-3 pm running August 1st – September 5th. Registration fees are $70 for WIM members and $85 for non-members. To register, visit www.writersinthemountains.org, or contact Jean Stone at 607-326-4802 or jtstone@catskill.net.
The library’s annual BOOK SALE will be held Saturday, August 11th from 11 am to 2 pm during the Andes Community Days. We have a wonderful collection of fiction, non-fiction, high quality paperback, DVDs and this year albums and VHS tapes (for those of you who still have a working VHS player. And a turntable.) For an additional $2 donation, you will receive a Libraries Rock! plastic drawstring bag to bring your new books home. If you have a book donation for the library, the week prior to the book sale is a good time to bring your donation. We are also looking for volunteers to help move books the week before. The book sale will continue for the week after Community Days and what we have left will be reorganized in the back room and on the porch to continue throughout the year.
On Saturday, August 18th, from 4 to 6 pm, Ira McIntosh will be performing an Interactive All Ages Music concert focusing on songs and stories from the Catskills and his time with the legendary Pete Seeger. Please join us rain or shine for this special event, made possible by the O’Connor Youth Programming Grants.
