June kicks off with our annual Library party, Sunday, June 3rd from 2 to 5 pm. As always, we welcome all of our patrons and Andes community members to join us for some delicious sweet and savory treats, engaging conversation, and even a little live music from yours truly and a few of our talented library friends. Architectural plans for our proposed construction project will be on display for your viewing, and we hope you can join us, rain or shine.
Our Summer is shaping up to be full of wonderful events thanks to two Libraries Rock! Youth program grants that were received from the O’Connor Foundation.
On Monday, July 9th from 4–6 pm, we will be holding an Ice Cream Social and Family Concert at the library. Mary Davis will be providing the ice cream and music therapist/internationally renowned children’s entertainer Emily Ellison will present an interactive program called “Children Sing and Celebrate Around the World.” Participants will sing folksongs from America and around the world and play djembes, shakers, balaphons, and other percussion instruments from America, Africa, China, Latin America, and Native Americana. Emily recently accompanied Patch Adams on a humanitarian clown trip to Costa Rica.
Wednesdays from 11 to 12:15 from July 11th to August 8th will feature Libraries Rock! Music workshops for children ages PreK–8th grade, to include everything from instrument making to songwriting with our own Story Laurie. All summer long, adults and children can sign up for our summer reading program and win prizes and reading incentives. More exciting musical event news for the month of August to come in next month’s edition.
Another exciting summer date to save is Saturday, July 14th. Our annual Garden Tour takes place from 11 am to 4 pm in Andes, showcasing some of the best gardens and views in the area! Maps will be available at the library.
If any of our Andes patrons or community members are interested in planning or hosting a workshop or event at the library, please contact me at 845-676-3333 or via email at an.ill@4cls.org. We are particularly looking for someone interested in becoming a host for a New York State Humanities Reading and Discussion program. The programs bring together community members for a series of thematically-linked, text-based conversations about important ideas. Applications are due Monday, June 25th, so please contact us if you would be interested in leading these Fall 2018 programs.
Enjoy your summer and I hope to see you at our annual party, Sunday June 3rd!~
