MOUNTAINEER TRACKS – February 2018

By Robert L. Chakar, Jr., Ed.D.,

Superintendent

On Thursday, January 4th, Mrs. Lauren Green, our secondary Math teacher, took some of our top students to SUNY Oneonta for the Upstate Academic Competition. The students who represented Andes are listed alphabetically: Britney Davila, Peter James DePierro, Leandra Edelson, Jedah Grapes, Alexis Redden, Journey Sulger and Michaela Valkavich. We’re all very proud of their efforts and for the way they represented their school.

Our Drama Club has started rehearsals for their spring production. On March 9th, 10th and 11th they will be performing the musical “Legally Blonde.” Stay tuned for further details as we get closer to the dates.

During our Spring Break in March, the ACS Travel Club will be traveling to Houston, Texas. While there, they will be lending a hand in the recovery efforts, after Hurricane Harvey left so much devastation behind. ACS is proud of our staff and students for their willingness to spend their time helping others.

Also during the Spring Break, our senior class will be going on their senior trip…..a cruise to the Bahamas! The students, along with their advisor, Mrs. Ennist, have been working hard over the years to make this trip possible.

Our Elementary Ski Program has started.  30 students in grades Kindergarten – 6th will be going to Plattekill Ski Center on 6 Fridays during the winter.

I would like to remind parents that the temperatures are getting colder and we have snow on the ground.  Please remember to dress your children warmly with snow pants, boots, mittens, hats, etc. because they will be going outside for recess as long as temperatures allow.

Lastly, please know that the administration and Board of Education are currently working on the budget for the school year 2018-19 as we plan for the May 15th annual meeting and budget vote.~
