MOUNTAINEER TRACKS – January 2018

By Robert L. Chakar, Jr., Ed.D, Superintendent

On Friday, Deycember 1st we hosted our Annual Senior Citizen’s Christmas Dinner. Many Andes residents over the age of 55 joined us for a wonderful turkey dinner prepared by Mrs. Laurie Day and her cafeteria staff, Julie Nelson and Samantha Falco. Mrs. Kathy Whittaker organized students to greet and serve our visitors while Ms. Kellie Daino, our music teacher, and her elementary music students in grades PreK – 6 entertained everyone with Christmas music. We always enjoy being able to give back to our senior citizens for their support throughout the year, and hope that they all enjoyed the afternoon as well.

On November 17th and 18th, Jay Camuti and James DePierro attended the Area All-State Music Festival. In order to participate, students perform solos at NYSSMA. Students who receive the best scores on the highest levels of NYSSMA solos are selected to participate in Area-All State. Students from all over Zone 8 of New York then come together and perform in large ensembles. Congratulations to our Area All-State students!

Ms. Lauren Green, our Academic Team advisor, is preparing our academic team for their competition on Thursday, January 4th. This year’s team consists of Alexis Redden, Peter James DePierro, Journey Sulger, Autumn Laurie, Lea Edelson, Michaela Valkavich, Jedah Grapes and Britney Davila. They will compete against schools from Delaware, Chenango and Otsego counties.

The 1st quarter of the 2017-18 school year has come to an end and I am happy to report that over 75% of our middle and high school students made either Superintendent’s List, High Honor Roll or Honor Roll.

Everyone at ACS would like to wish you all a very happy New Year and hope that 2018 brings good health and happiness to you all.~
