LIBRARY NOTES — October 2017

By Pamela West-Finkle

The smell of Fall is in the Catskill Mountain air and the library has once again settled into a quieter state. As busy as we were over the summer, I miss the steady stream of company I had, so don’t forget to stop by and peruse our extensive collection of new releases. If there is something you want that we do not have, we can order it for our library or through the Four County Library System.

Speaking of the Four County Library System, Transparent Languages Online is now available at www.4cls.org, adding to the wonderful array of digital resources available for all Four County patrons. Transparent Language Online offers the most comprehensive language-learning solution for libraries. With this flexible program, you can quickly and easily learn new languages using our wide variety of courses and activities. It is easy to sign up with a free account, but if you need help, please make an appointment with me at the library and I will be happy to walk you through it. With Transparent Language Online, you have access to the following: (a full explanation is available at the library)

  • Over 100 Languages (and Growing!)
  • Extensive English Collection
  • Alphabet Lessons
  • Flexible Learning Path
  • Speaking Practice

I would also like to remind patrons that if you would like to have free digital checkouts of your favorite ebooks or audiobooks, an electronic copy of your favorite magazine, or you would like to download one of our public domain audiobook classics, our user-friendly kiosk, donated by Mark Unthank of Coolnerd, has been upgraded with a keypad and barcode scanner for your Four County Library Card. If you need help accessing this digital media, please make an appointment with me and I can assist you.

Hopefully soon, we will also have four new patron computers and a bluetooth printer as we submitted an O’Connor technology upgrade grant September 1st. Thank you for your patience as we upgrade our systems in order to provide our community and its visitors with the very best digital services possible so that you can stay connected with the rest of the world while enjoying our peaceful mountain life.

Program Reminders: Our 11 am Wednesday Music and Story Hour has resumed. I will also be open late on Halloween, Tuesday, October 31st, handing out treats and providing hot beverages for community members and trick-or-treaters!~
