MOUNTAINEER TRACKS – September 2017

By Robert L. Chakar, Jr., Ed.D.,Superintendent

ACS will open its doors to students for the 2017-18 school year on Tuesday, September 5th.

We have hired Ms. Kellie Daino as our new music teacher, replacing Ms. Jessica Young, who resigned to take a position in a neighboring district.

We are anxious to host our ninth annual “Evening of Excellence” on Thursday, October 5th, to honor students who maintained an average of 90% or higher during the four quarters of the 2016-17 school year.  This is always a wonderful evening of celebrating these students and their academic accomplishments from the previous school year.

The Drama Club is planning to present its fall show on November 3rd and 4th. Rehearsals will be starting shortly after school begins. Please look for more information as we move closer to the production dates. Our school has once again merged with South Kortright Central School for our fall soccer and golf; all the students continue to do very well.

The Board of Education made the decision at the July 27th meeting to move forward with a capital building project. The Board of Education has done many small projects over the last several years, but the scope of work that needs to be done in our main building is extensive and keeps growing. It is felt that to appropriately maintain our learning community and in order to qualify for State Aid, doing a Capital Project will benefit the taxpayers and the district. We are looking to hold a vote on the project on Tuesday, September 26th. Please know that more information will be coming soon on the scope of the work.

We are looking forward to another successful school year at Andes Central School and hope to see you at many of the events hosted here.~
