With this winter’s snow here today, gone tomorrow, maybe back the day after that, roadside litter has been playing peek-a-boo with us, constantly reminding us that it is almost time to get out there and do something about it. The “Bag Ladies of the Tremperskill”, Nancy McShane and Ann Roberti are again looking for volunteers to help in the annual endeavor of litter removal. We’re already getting queries from our regular volunteers, asking when the annual pickup is going to be this year, because, as we’ve said, “It’s surprisingly fun”. Last year we covered an amazing amount of roadway in our two day event – Route 28 from the Bovina town line to the old quarry heading to Margaretville, Tremperskill Road from town to the Shavertown Bridge and Rte. 30 from the bridge to the route 28 intersection. Each year things are easier as cleaner roads inspire people to keep their trash in their cars until they get home.
We are again going to have two days of litter pickup so that we can accommodate those who can only make a weekday and those who can only make a weekend. This year, litter pickup days will be Wednesday, April 19th (rain date Wednesday, April 26th) and Saturday, April 22nd (rain date Saturday April 29th), 9 am to 1 pm. We will meet at 9:00 AM at the Andes General Store. Bring work gloves, boots, clear plastic garbage bags, a pack to carry your bags and water, and any “reacher” tools you might have. Wear a bright shirt or jacket or orange vest.
RSVP if you can come, to Nancy at 676-3534/njm331@catskill.net or Ann at 676-3643/aroberti@catskill.net . Don’t hesitate to contact us if you would like more information.
