By Pamela West-Finkle, Library Director
Thank you so much for the wonderful warm welcome I have received here in Andes. I have enjoyed meeting so many of you and I look forward to serving this community. I have also enjoyed the many delightful conversations and the lively atmosphere at this beautiful library. Thank you for your patience as I learn the ins and outs of my new job.
Current/Upcoming Programs (In addition to our Reading & Discussion Series, Litwits Bookgroup, Movie Night and Italian Circle)
Every Wednesday, 11 am– Toddler Time Story & Song Hour with Miss Pam!
Early childhood music educator and Andes librarian encourages parents and caregivers of children ages birth to five to come for a fun hour of stories, songs, finger play, and family networking.
Thursdays – 4th Thursday (new program): All Ages: Open Mike, Acoustic Jam and Poetry Slam with Miss Pam
All instruments, ability levels, and styles of music welcome. Sign up begins at 6:30 pm and the in-the-round style performances will start at 7 pm. Improvisation will be facilitated and encouraged.
Heads Up! Community Survey – COMING SOON!
In an effort to best serve this community, I will be creating a brief survey that will be emailed to our patrons. Physical copies will also be available in the library. I have lots of ideas for new programming (i.e. early childhood Music Together® classes; after school writing, book, music, and unplugged game clubs for local youth; SAT prep; technology classes for adults and senior citizens; health and wellness workshops), but I would like to know what kind of programs you want and need. Please take some time to fill out the survey and feel free to email it back or drop it off in the book return.
Book Sale
Thanks to everyone who has donated books and supported our book sale. We still have many more books to find homes for and new books are put outside daily. Please stop by and take a look any time. Three hardcovers or five paperbacks for $1. After hours, please use the Honor System can on the young adult table. Magazines are free!
The Research Center at 4cls.org – AMAZING!!!
If you have a library card from any of the libraries in the Four County Library System, you literally have the world at your fingertips. You have access to millions of books, audio books, CDs, and DVDs. You can order them yourself or have me order them for you if you wish. The Research Center on the 4cls website gives you access to archives, current and back issues of Digital Magazines through Flipster that you can download on your phone or device; Genealogy Research through Ancestry.com; Research Journals; Encyclopedias & Almanacs. You can get Job Help and Practice Tests; museum archive and image galleries; Teacher’s resources; Literature Reference Center and a special “read-alike” search engine. The new Health and Wellness section gives you access to information on both traditional and alternative forms of healthcare and treatment. If you would like help navigating the website, please let me know or come into the library for a tutorial.
That’s all for this month! If you have a question, want to make a book or movie suggestion, or just want to say hello, you can reach me at 845-676-3333, or via email at an.ill@4cls.org. I am at the library Mondays and Tuesdays from 1 to 6 pm, Wednesdays from 11 to 4, and Thursdays from 5-8. Gloria is in on Fridays from 1-5, and many thanks to our volunteers for covering most Saturdays, 10-12. Thank you again for the warm welcome! I love it here!
Happy Fall!~
