By the Andes Community Day Committee
During the long hours of last winter, as some were planning their crops and gardens, members of the new Andes Business Committee and some very committed residents gathered to discuss how best to promote the uniqueness of Andes. Often thought of as “the town up the mountain,” many don’t know of the hidden treasures of the past and some of the new additions of the present that are part of what residents here call home. Instead of trying to reinvent the wheel, it didn’t take long for this group of planners to realize that by extending Andes Community Day into two days they’d be able to share and celebrate all that is Andes.
As a result, and with the support from our amazing local farms and businesses, a festival of events that won’t be found anywhere else will take place on Andes Community Days August 13th & 14th. “Come One, Come All!” boast the flyers and they mean it. Events are planned celebrating the history, the farms, the local business, and the abundant outdoor recreation that IS Andes. There’s something for everyone!
Following the kick-off event, a parade with floats and bands, the 90th Annual Andes Community Days is packed with local foods, nature walks and paddles, games, museum tours, farm tours, dance in the park, film at the new Train Depot, art, classic car show, more food, clowns and music!
SEE for yourselves on the schedule and map printed in this edition; or check out the video on Facebook: Andes Community Days. As part of the Catskill Mountain Scenic Byway Signature Event, Andes celebrates its historical importance as the town where the end of feudalism in America began; and as a town that not only survived the building of the reservoirs but also continues to grow with the support of community. YES – come one, come all!~
