MOUNTAINEER TRACKS – January 2016

By Robert L. Chakar, Jr., Ed.D.

On Friday, December 4th, we hosted our Annual Senior Citizen’s Christmas Dinner.  Nearly 60 Andes residents over the age of 55 joined us for a wonderful turkey dinner prepared by Mrs. Laurie Day and her cafeteria staff, Julie Nelson and Samantha Falco. Mrs. Kathy Whittaker organized students to greet and serve our visitors while Mrs. Jessica Young, our vocal music teacher, and her music students in grades PreK-12 entertained everyone with some Christmas music. We always enjoy being able to give back to our senior citizens for their support throughout the year, and hope that they all enjoyed the afternoon as well.

On November 20th and 21st, Serena Bacon, Belle Bourke, Winnie Richards and Alexis Redden had the honor of participating in Zone 8 Area All State. In order to participate in Area All State, students perform solos at The New York State Music Association. Students who receive the best scores on the highest levels of NYSSMA solos are selected to participate in Area All State. Students from all over Zone 8 of New York then come together and perform in large ensembles. Congratulations to our Area All State students!

Also, congratulations to Zachary Valkavich and Noah Dougherty who were named to the Delaware County All-Star Team in boys’ varsity soccer.

Ms. Lauren Green, our Academic Team advisor, is preparing our academic team for their competition on Thursday, January 7th, 2016.  The team consists of Allison Long, Belle Bourke, Noah Dougherty, Serena Bacon, Montana Damone, James DePierro, Alexis Redden and Journey Sulger. They will compete against schools from Delaware, Chenango and Otsego counties.

After the Christmas break, our Drama Club students will begin rehearsing for the spring musical, which has yet to be determined. Performances are scheduled to take place on March 4th and 5th, so keep your eyes open for further information.~
