LIBRARY NOTES – January 2016

Children with SantaBy Barbara Mellon

I cannot believe how time flies! Again we are saying good-bye to one year as we welcome in another. The staff here at the Andes Public Library wishes you all a spectacular 2016.

The final month of 2015 saw lots of activity here at the library. The Stitch Witches met to work on their various projects and the LitWits, our book group, had a lively discussion about the novel Arcadia by Lauren Groff. There was a full house for our showing of the film Ricki and the Flash, starring Meryl Streep and Rick Springfield. And of course, after the annual Tree Lighting, the building was overrun by excited children anxiously awaiting a chance to sit on Santa’s lap, proud to let him know how good they’d been all year.

Coming in January, the book group will meet on the 7th at 5 pm to share thoughts on Michael Pollan’s The Botany of Desire. New members are always welcome, so give us a call if you would like to have a copy ordered for you, or to have your name added to the email contact list. On Thursday, January 14th, Movie Night will begin at 7 pm. Gloria Carlson and I are going through our monthly machinations to come up with just the right selection! Watch for an email the week before to find out what will be showing. And don’t forget to stop in on the 21st, again at 7 pm, to see what the Italian Circle is up to. Every month is a treat, and often there are treats involved! Maria Ditchek and Judy Garrison, the minds behind this wonderful endeavor, do a fantastic job of finding interesting topics for the group to enjoy.

Should winter actually arrive in January, we’ll have plenty of things for you to do to stay busy, from these programs to shelves and shelves of books to read. Prefer a movie? There are currently over 1500 DVDs in our collection. Music CDs, audiobooks, computers, Wi-Fi – all kinds of services exist here at the library. So when you have a moment of down time, visit us to see what your library can do for you! ~
