THE SAVORY TABLE from your Andes and Bovina Community Food Bank – November 2015

PHOTO Food DonationsAs Ichabod jogged slowly on his way his eye, ever open to every symptom of culinary abundance, ranged with delight over the treasures of jolly autumn. On all sides he beheld vast stores of apples…. great fields of Indian corn, with its golden ears peeping from their leafy coverts, and holding out the promise of cakes and hasty-pudding; and the yellow pumpkins lying beneath them, turning up their fair round bellies to the sun, and giving ample prospects of the most luxurious of pies… ~Washington Irving, “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow”

Each year the Community Food Bank looks forward to sharing Thanksgiving dinners. In this season of abundance, as always, food shared is food savored. While Delaware Opportunities provides turkeys and stuffing along with canned vegetables and cranberry sauce, we would like to add the extras such as fresh-baked pies and cakes; dinner rolls and biscuits; and prepared gravies and relishes (other than cranberry sauce). We invite you to help us make this happen!

Please consider contributing these items in kind, bringing your contributions to the Andes Presbyterian Church at one of these two times:

  • Thursday November 19 from 5-6 pm.
  • Monday November 24 from 5-6 pm.

If these hours don’t work for you, please call Carol Barrett at 676-3747 to arrange another drop-off appointment. We will be distributing the dinners on Friday November 20, and Tuesday November 25. If you would rather make a financial donation, please send a check any time during November to the Andes Presbyterian Church; on the memo line write “Thanksgiving Dinner”.

In other news: The Andes and Bovina Food Bank has established a steering committee. Current members include the volunteers, Tom Joyce, and Pastors Marena Vittorio and Garrett Schindler. The steering committee, chaired by coordinator Joi Brundege, makes operational decisions for the Food Bank and the Snack Pack Program.
