A day to remember the valley and four villages, Pepacton, Shavertown, Union Grove and Arena will be held on September 6th at the Pleasant Valley Meeting House, 353 Delaware County Hwy. 1, Andes (at the intersection with Bussey Hollow). Bring a dish to pass and your own table service at noon for a Pot Luck Dinner.
There will be photos and memorabilia of the valley and four villages on exhibit. At 2 pm the movie “Beneath Pepacton Waters” will be shown. The movie, narrated by Bob and Alice Jacobson, consists of 8 mm movie films copied to a DVD, taken by George Hoag. It includes the valley before construction and also during construction of the Pepacton Reservoir. George and his wife, Letha, and daughter, Alice spent a lot of time traveling through the valley with an 8 mm movie camera and still cameras, knowing the valley would soon be gone.
Somehow George always was there for certain things like when the last Shavertown house and barn would be burned, and also on Thanksgiving Day when the Shavertown Bridge fell in the water, where it still remains.
This event, sponsored by the Andes Society for History and Culture, invites the public at no charge.~
