Today, June 14th, was the first day in a long time that I took my walk along Route 28, beside Bryants Brook. The brook was full, gurgling over fallen trees and through caves formed by large rocks. Wildflowers blooming, mostly on the sunny side of the street, in whites, purples, lavenders, yellows and pinks, were exquisite! Overhead, red-winged blackbirds flew from tree to tree, their not-very-pleasant song made up for by their striking color combination. Butterflies danced above the flowers in beautiful patterns. I took pictures, but couldn’t do the scene the justice it deserved because the colors will not show up in our black and white printing of The Gazette but will on our website www.adnesgazette.net. No matter how I try, I can never compete with nature’s palette in my own garden!
Last night, Michael Suchorsky, accompanied by David Rissenberg, gave a lively and wonderful performance on drum and synthesizer, called “Night Sky”, at the Andes Hotel. We are truly lucky to have such talent, right here. John Heney who plays guitar with the Blues Maneuvers, and Jesse Cohen, another talented musician, were in the audience. During intermission, the musicians talked and I think we can look forward to an exceptional performance, including all of them, sometime this summer.
Between The Honest Brook Concerts, The Friends Of Music Concerts for classical music, and all the other wonderful music groups of all kinds available to us in the summer, I think we’re pretty lucky, and when I see what’s going on at The West Kortright Centre, The Roxbury Arts Group, Glimmerglass, The Phoenicia Festival of the Voice and other groups performing dance, theater, opera and other arts, there’s no reason for anyone to leave the Catskills during the summer.
The Catskill Recreational Center is another gem, ten minutes from my house, where I spend a few mornings a week. If you enjoy swimming, water aerobics, yoga and other fitness programs, check their schedule. They’re open 7 days a week, all day and evenings too. You’ll find their beautiful facility on Route 38, in Arkville. Look for information online at http://catskillrecreationcenter.org/.
Then, of course there’s the Andes Pool, opening on June 29th, so we can all look forward to a marvelous summer!~
