The Board of Education has been working diligently to prepare a school budget which will stay within the tax levy threshold of 1.34%. That said, the Board has proposed a tax levy increase of 1.34%, which is at the legal limit, under a simple majority vote. We are pleased that there are no layoffs, though there is one retirement who will likely not be replaced. We will continue to be efficient with our combined grades of pre-K and K, grades 1 & 2, and grades 5 & 6. The Board is also managing increases in mandated costs such as salaries, health insurance and related costs.

The public hearing on the budget will take place at 7 pm on Thursday, May 7th in the Distance Learning classroom. Voting on the budget and board of education members, as well as a proposition to purchase a new 20 passenger school bus, will take place on Tuesday, May 19th from noon – 8 pm in the Fitness Room.

We congratulate Montana Damone, Serena Bacon, Noah Dougherty, and Winnie Richards-Consigny, the newest members of the Andes Central School, Dr. J.D. Frisbee Chapter of the National Honor Society. They were inducted on April 22nd during a school assembly.

The student body is also excited that their Junior Prom is scheduled for May 9th at the Andes Hotel.

Lastly, this year’s Open House will be held on May 19th, the same date as the budget vote. Open House will be from 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm.~
