MOUNTAINEER TRACKS – MARCH 2015

While we are hoping for spring to arrive early, members of our Drama Club are busy preparing for their next production; Disney’s The Little Mermaid, which will be presented on Friday, March 6th and Saturday, March 7th at 7 pm. We hope you will all come out and enjoy it.
At the time of this writing, 11 students from our Travel Club, along with 4 chaperones, are enjoying the warm temperatures in St. John, Virgin Islands and members of our Senior Class are visiting Puerto Rico. We hope to be able to share more about their trips in the next issue.
On Thursday, February 6th, 3 senior members of the girls’ varsity basketball team, Rebecca Kole, Adriel Grapes and Cassandra Storey played in their last home game. (See photo at ACS_senior_niteleft.) We wish these girls all the best in the future.
30 children in grades Kindergarten–6 have been enjoying going to Plattekill Ski Center on Fridays for a day of skiing. Unfortunately, the colder temperatures and wind chills have kept them home for a couple of weeks, but they hope to get back out there soon. This is a great chance for the little ones to learn to ski and enjoy the snow.
ACS is pleased to announce that Mr. John Bernhardt, former superintendent and coach, was inducted into the Delaware County League Coaches Hall of Fame during the Crossover Tournament held on February 20th at the Manes Field House at SUNY Delhi. Mr. Bernhardt coached for many years and was very successful at ACS and we are very excited that he was able to be recognized in such a way. It is a much deserved honor for him.
The third quarter began on February 2nd. On February 10th, 65% of our 5-12 students were recognized at the Academic Recognition assembly for meeting requirements for either Honor, High Honor or Superintendent’s List during the 2nd quarter. One student in each grade PreK-4th was also recognized for their special efforts during the 2nd quarter. They all received certificates and a coupon for free ice cream in the school cafeteria.
Lastly, the administration and Board of Education are currently working on the budget for the school year 2015-16 as we plan for the May 19th annual meeting and budget vote. ~
