Where does the time go? Wasn’t summer just yesterday? And now there’s snow and cold and holidays just around the corner. Ah well, isn’t it lucky that here at the library we have all kinds of things to help you indulge in a perfect winter pastime! Want to take a magical journey to places you’ve never visited? There are books galore that can introduce you to the wonders of distant states and faraway countries. Perhaps you’d prefer to grab a box of tissues and a cup of tea for comfort as you watch a touching love story. We have shelves and shelves of movies for adults and children. Audio books, CDs, magazines and more are also available along with computers and WiFi. And, of course, you’re always welcome to just drop by to chat a bit with friends and neighbors.

Among the new books on our shelves this month, you’ll find two by authors who live right here in Andes. Local Stop in the Promised Land, by John Telford Gregg, is a portrait of the residents and businesses in an upper West Side neighborhood in Manhattan from the late 1800s through the 1950s. From Alex Adelson, Deceit and Other Conveniences is a novel built around the culture of Wall Street.  Stop by or call to have your name added to the reserved list for these intriguing works by such talented local writers.

The second Thursday of each month is Movie Night at the Library. In November we showed a lovely film called Words and Pictures. Although relatively unknown, I fell in love with the story and the actors. If you missed it, you can borrow it from the library to watch at home. The  next Movie Night is scheduled for December 11th at 7 pm, when we will show an as yet undetermined Christmas film. Be sure to join us for the fun.~
