June promises to be a busy month here at the Andes Public Library as we welcome the start of the summer season. We hope you’ll be able to join us for a couple of special events, as well as stopping in regularly to stock up on books, DVDs, magazines and such.
On Sunday, June 9th, from 3-6 pm, we’ll throw open the doors for our annual Open House to thank the community for their patronage and support. Yummy snacks, foot-tapping music, sparkling conversation; what a superb way to wrap up a summer weekend! Whether you’re a regular visitor or have yet to discover the charms of our little library, we hope you’ll stop by for our celebration.
Once again our intrepid volunteers are working tirelessly to organize the library’s annual Garden Tour, scheduled for Saturday, June 29th. For a mere $10/person, you’ll get the chance to enjoy all these fabulous gardens throughout Andes, including a few that are new to this event. Make this a “must-do” and you’re sure to go home full of ideas to try out in your own garden!
It’s been more than two years now since we began offering downloadable e-books and audio books via the Four County Library System’s Download Zone program. As the popularity of the program has increased, so has the number of titles available for borrowing. When last I looked, there were about 800 e-books and over 400 audio titles in the catalog, ensuring that there is now plenty of availability. In addition, the process of searching for and downloading items has gotten easier. You don’t have to have an actual e-book reader to take advantage of this program; books can be downloaded to and read or listened to on laptops, tablets, smartphones, iPods and more. Step-by-step instructions are available on the Four County website (www.4cls.org); just click on “Download Zone” and get started.
Up and down Main Street, Lower Main and Delaware Avenue, lively, fresh colors have been appearing, not just in the gardens but on many buildings in the hamlet — at least six I’ve noticed. The Andes Public Library is among them and we are thrilled with the outcome. Our updated look was made possible through the generous contributions of our many supporters and the A. Lindsay and Olive B. O’Connor Foundation. Didn’t Gordy Krick do a wonderful job? ~
