By Robert L. Chakar, Jr., Ed.D

Our doors opened a month ago on Thursday, September 6th for the 2012-13 school year seamlessly and with great excitement. Students and staff noticed the many improvements, including the fitness center upgrade with new equipment, the bus garage/kindergarten building having been outfitted with new, more efficient windows, as well as replacing the fragile garage door to the fitness center with French doors allowing for additional heat savings and another exit.

This month we are hosting our fourth annual “Evening of Excellence” on Thursday, October 4th, to honor students who maintained an average of 90%+ during the entire 2011-12 school year. Also, be aware that school will be closed on October 8th to celebrate Columbus Day.

On Wednesday, October 17th, Mr. Reynolds, our guidance counselor, will be administering the PSAT to our sophomores and juniors. On Thursday, October 18th, Andes will have its Open House/Book Fair beginning at 6:30 pm; Portal Training will also be available starting at 6:15 p m. School will be closed on Friday, October 19th, as it is a conference day for faculty and staff. Lastly, Andes will be completing its practice Emergency Evacuation Drill (leave 15 minutes early) on Friday, October 26th.

Our Drama Club is planning to present its fall show of “Beauty and the Beast” on November 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. Rehearsals started in September and will continue through the coming weeks. Lastly, our fall athletic merger with our neighbors in South Kortright has been going well. We are looking forward to another successful school year at Andes Central School and hope to see you at the events hosted at Andes Central School this year. ~
