Don Hogan (AKA “The Butcher) may soon be famous for more than his pizza

Most everyone has caught a glimpse of the film crew and actors shooting “We Are What We Are” all over the region through the month of June. It is a remake for North American audiences of “Somos Lo Que Hay,” a drama/horror film made in Mexico in 2010, an entry at the Cannes Film Festival, directed and written by Jorge Michel Grau.

Jane, an “extra,” plays a waitress

Barbara has seen them setting up on Russell Hill Road near a large farmhouse where much of the action takes place. A mini trailer park was constructed there for some of the rural scenes. They shot a huge Festival scene in Halcottsville; other scenes were filmed in Fleischmanns. On June 7th the technical crew and their lighting and camera equipment took up a considerable portion of the sidewalk in front of Woody’s, which closed for the day to allow extensive, all-day shooting in their space. Actors and extras in costume, and various crew members were in and out of Paisley’s seeking diversion during their waits. Late in the afternoon a scene was shot at Hogan’s. Rumor has it that Don Hogan played a butcher.
