LIBRARY NOTES – March 2012

By Barbara Mellon

I’ve been playing around with the Research Center available through the Four County Library System website again. Since my car recently left me stranded down at the Post Office, it seemed an opportune time to check out the “Auto Repair Reference Center”. What a wealth of information! Tooling around through this section you can find step-by-step repair guides, technical service and recall bulletins, electrical wiring diagrams, preventative maintenance schedules and more. Auto IQ is a video that explains how the components of an automobile function, and an advanced troubleshooting guide helps pinpoint a problem based on symptoms and ODBII codes. Information is included for more than 34,000 vehicles from 1945 to the present. All of this is available to you when you go to, click on Research Center, and enter your Andes Public Library-issued library card number.

Just a reminder. If you are unable to get to the library, but would like to borrow books or DVDs, just give us a call at 845-676-3333. We can make arrangements to have items delivered to, or picked up from, patrons within the Town of Andes.

For our audiobook lovers: We’ve received a new packet via the Audio Circuit program. Included are such titles as When We Were Orphans by Kazuo Ishiguro, Heat by Mike Lupica, Parents Behaving Badly by Scott Gummer, Brother Ray: Ray Charles’ Own Story by Ray Charles, and The Year of Magical Thinking by Joan Didion.

The Margaretville Hospital Auxiliary Wellness Committee has given the Andes Public Library several educational videos on the subject of health care. Each DVD deals with a different problem that most of us would find interesting, such as:

Managing Diabetes, Eugene Heslin, M.D., Kingston Hospital, Diabetes Center

Dispelling the Myths & Finding the Truth: Women & Heart Disease, Aneta Dimova, M.D., Cardiologist

Orthopedics and the Aging Process, Do We Have Options? Richard Moscowitz, M.D., Orthopedic Surgeon, Benedictine Hospital

Breast Cancer Prevention, Detection & Diagnosis, Samitra Y. Khera, MS, MD, Breast Surgeon, Benedictine Hospital

Summer Time Emergencies, Eric Stutt, M.D., Emergency Department, Margaretville Hospital

All are interesting and answer so many questions that we may have been thinking about.~
