LIBRARY NOTES – January 2012

By Barbara Mellon

How lucky we were, once again, to have the sounds of joy fill our little library as Santa Claus made his annual pre-Christmas visit to Andes to listen to the hopes and dreams of the community’s children. While I wasn’t able to be there myself this year, I heard from a number of attendees that the event was spectacular… music, laughter, bright eyes, and plenty of delicious foods.

We here at the library wish to thank Doris Hartung for lending us the wonderful collection of china, crystal and silver objects which decorated our display case recently. Many of our patrons were awed by the beauty of the pieces, most of which came from Doris’ homeland of Germany. Now the shelves are bare again, though. If you have some things you would like to see displayed at the library, stop by whenever you see the Open sign out, or give us a call at 676-3333.

I often hear from our patrons how happy they are with our ability to supply them with many of the latest books. We are able to do this thanks to the financial generosity of our supporters, the direction of our Library Trustees who recognize the importance of spending funds on our collection, and to librarian Gloria Carlson and volunteer Linda Lederman, who keep abreast of what is new and of interest to our patrons in order to fill the shelves with books Andes wants to read. If we don’t have what you’re looking for, just ask.~
