MOUNTAINEER TRACKS – September 2011

By Robert L. Chakar, Jr., Ed.D.

Superintendent of School

The first day of school for the 2011-12 school year at Andes Central School will be Tuesday, September 6, 2011.  The building will be open for students at 7:15 a.m. with breakfast being served from 7:45 – 8:00 a.m.

We will be excited to see all the children return after their summer vacations and to hear their voices once again in the hallways.  Ms. Natasha Merritt has been hired to teach Social Studies to replace Ben Oles, and Mr. Alan Seidman will be teaching 7th grade science this year, in addition to Earth Science, which he taught last year.

Many facility improvements have been accomplished during this summer.  The bricks that were purchased a few years ago are being installed near the front entrance of the building; the greenhouse has begun to be built behind the swimming pool and we hope to have it completed this fall; new curtains have been purchased for the stage area and we are hoping to be able to install new concrete sidewalks running along the front of the building sometime this fall.

Andes will once again host its “Evening of Excellence” on Thursday, October 6, 2011, to honor those students in grades 8-11 who maintained an average of 90%+ during the last school year.

We hope all our students are looking forward to a very successful school year.  ~.
