Her business card reads “Victoria S. Merrill” but the sign on her desk says Vicki. Her smile welcomes you into her windowed office at the National Bank of Delaware County on Main Street where she is Loan Officer and Bank Manager. She assumed the post in September and is eager to get to know more people in Andes. Even if you don’t need a loan or have a banking question, she invites you to step in and introduce yourself.

Ms. Merrill is a Long Islander who went to SUNY Cobleskill and found she preferred upstate to down. “I like the scenery, the open spaces and the people.” She majored in Equine Studies, but joined the staff of the Delaware National Bank of Delhi. “I was a horse person in need of money!” She settled in Delhi, and over the next 14 years worked her way up from teller to loan officer while raising a boy, now 14, and a girl, 10. Their pictures, showing off their prize chickens at the County Fair, adorn her bookshelf. Her husband is a plumbing and heating technician at Dubben Brothers.

Fourteen months ago, Ms. Merrill moved to the National Bank of Delaware County as a loan officer at the Stamford branch. When the head job at the Andes branch opened up she stepped right in. And what of the road on horseback not taken fifteen years ago? The Merrrills are looking for horses to add to their menagerie in the spring: family friendly, calm and sane, please.

Vicki Merrill thinks Andes is “a great community.”  She shared with me that an ATM will be installed this spring at the back corner of the bank. A real convenience! Drive or walk up, but don’t forget to greet the wonderful staff inside: Kathy Dumortier, Sandy McAdams, Donna Spenser and their new boss, Vicki Merrill.~
