NOTHING TO DO IN ANDES? WE BEG TO DIFFER…

Attendees at a recent Italian Circle enjoy tasty treats before watching a movie about Sicily

By Judy Garrison

I urged Maria Lombardo Ditchek to facilitate a monthly Italian Circle with me because, selfishly, I want to hear some Italian spoken, revive my basic conversational skills, and learn more about the Italy I love.  Maria, now a full-time Andes resident, has not only fluency in the language but that gioia di vivere which is infectious.

Since June we have had monthly sessions focused on cookbooks and recipes, memoirs and travel books, family immigration stories, basic conversation; and “All about Sicily.”  Suggested future topics include Italian wines, Italian film, Italian popular music, and vacation/travel suggestions.

The Circle will always have a focal topic chosen but is flexible enough to adjust to the inclinations of whoever is present.  It may be that exchanging stories and information while eating Italian snacks is what people enjoy most.

It’s not a membership organization.  Come once or frequently.  Bring friends!  Italian heritage not required!

Meets:  Third Thursdays at the Library, 7-8:30 pm. ~
