MUSIC IN THE PARK RETURNS FOR A SECOND SEASON – July 2010

By Barbara Mellon

For so many of us, it’s right across the street when we make our daily trip to the Post Office to pick up the mail. We pass by it on that weekly trek to the Transfer Station. One of the loveliest spots in Andes can be found tranquilly existing in Ballantine Park.

Concert goers enjoy an afternoon of music and nature in the Park.

Last year’s series of concerts, organized and run by a small but dedicated group of volunteers,  was met with considerable enthusiasm, so once again the Friends of Ballantine Park will be sponsoring musical performances in the lush surroundings of this local gem. Upcoming shows include Blues Maneuver on July 3rd and Country Express on August 7th, both from 2:00 to 4:00 in the afternoon. Bring a blanket or a chair and enjoy the phenomenal experience of live music amidst the glories of nature.

Andes Supervisor Marty Donnelly, speaking for the Friends of Ballantine Park, expressed appreciation to all those who support their efforts by donating time or money. Although owned by the Town of Andes, the park’s maintenance is funded entirely through donations, and the musical events are made possible through donations and grants.  If you would like to help, contributions can be sent to The Friends of Ballantine Park, P.O. Box 205, Andes, NY 13731.

In addition to monetary assistance, volunteers are needed to ensure that the park is maintained and utilized to its fullest potential. Fundraising, event planning, grant writing, and public relations are just some of the skills that would be useful. Get in touch with Marty Donnelly to find out how you can help.

Concerts sponsored in part by NYS Decentralization Grant administered by the Roxbury Arts Group.
