By Mary TuckerFor our May outing, the Andes Senior Club and guests car-pooled to the Joseph J. Popp Butterfly Conservatory on Route 7 in Oneonta. On arriving we were escorted to a room simulating a tropical forest complete with the high humidity and plantings where rare, exotic butterflies, birds and insects are housed. Imagine an unusual butterfly landing on an arm or shoulder and resting there several minutes; Evelyn Norris and Nora Cole were both favored with butterfly visits. Attendants assisted visitors in identifying the species and by helping us find those that were hidden in trees and plants. After browsing in the gift shop we met again at a nearby restaurant for lunch.

There will be no Senior Club meeting on June 18. Instead, the group will be going on an Albany Aqua Ducks tour that day, leaving Andes at 9:30 AM. Aboard an amphibious Duck, we’ll tour the historic streets of Albany and cruise on the Hudson River to enjoy the city’s skyline. After the tour we’ll have dinner at Grandma’s Restaurant and arrive home in Andes at 8:30 PM that evening. The cost of the trip is $40 for members, $50 for non-members. Call Gerald Norris at 845-676-3281 for reservations. ~
