By Mary TuckerThe following items of interest were brought up at the January 15th meeting, after the usual satisfying lunch, of course.
**Starting February 2009: Income Tax Assistance will be available at the Senior Dining Center. Call the Office for the Aging at 607-746-6333 for an appointment.
**Saturdays during winter months: The Art in Common program will be held at the Margaretville Commons Building from 4 to 7 PM. There will be free entertainment and refreshments. All stores in the Commons will be open for browsing and shopping.
**As of February 21: Senior meals will be served at the First Presbyterian Church on Clinton Street in Delhi.
**April 18: The AARP Safe Driving Course geared especially for seniors will be given by Gerald Norris at the Andes Methodist Church. As of 2009 all New York State seniors will be required to take the course every 3 years; the date taken will be noted on drivers license. Cost is $12 for AARP members and $14 for all others.
Proposed programs for 2009 Senior Club Meetings:
** March – The Margaretville Hospital Mobile Health Unit will be brought to Andes for a preview of its health services. At this time it will be staffed by a RN who will take blood sugars and pressures. In future months it will be staffed by a MD who will do health assessments. All seniors should try to be present for this preview.
**April – Teri Stralford from PermaCulture will speak about eating locally grown food, ideas and tips on small home gardens and protecting the environment..
Out next meeting-will be on February 19th at the Andes Methodist Church. Lunch will be served at noon, followed by the meeting and program. Hosts for the month are Bill Elwood and Jane and Fred Berghammer. ~
