From Dave Cyrelson
The following came out of the December 8th PTSA meeting:
“Movie Night” recap – The kids enjoyed the movie. The parents in attendance appreciated the night of free family fun. The PTSA was pleased to arrange the event and to provide a free DVD of Kung Fu Panda to one lucky winner and free CDs with movie games and trivia to all the rest. We are working to arrange another Movie Night for the future.
If you have not signed up for the “Tools for Schools” program and you shop (even occasionally) at Price Chopper, please contact Sue Mackay and sign up (It takes less than 2 minutes.)
Two different scholarship and reward programs were discussed. The Andes “Dollars for Scholars” program is an academic scholarship program for graduating seniors. Interested students must complete an application and be evaluated by the faculty. College freshman can also complete an application and, if selected, receive a financial award. For information on this program, contact Jan Stevens in the ACS office. The PTSA itself supports academic achievement through quarterly rewards and the “Strive for Five” programs for students in all grade levels, and is planning a new scholarship award for a senior this year.
Paving stone inscription: Vote for your favorite (visit www.andescentralschool.org and go to the PTA link for the quotes in the running) or suggest something else. Deadline January 12, 2009.
Based on the discussion with the 7th – 12th grade students during “First Wednesday,” the PTSA is looking into arranging a Snow Tubing trip to Plattekill and a bowling/roller skating trip to Oneonta.
Involvement is easy. Every little bit helps. Support your PTSA – for your kids and the community
