Events of a Week as Chronicled by the
Man on the Street

A large monument is being erected on the Walter T. Armstrong plot in Rural cemetery.

Mrs. F. S. Angell has been having the house on Gray mountain painted. The body is green with red trimmings.

This vicinity was visited by a white frost Tuesday night, and it did considerable damage to vegetation in many places.

Every resident of Andes can assist in keeping the village neat and attractive. Besides keeping the lawn mowed it will add much to the appearance of your place to mow the grass outside of the walk also.

Tuesday the work of graveling Main street was commenced, the gravel being secured from T. S. Miller’s dam. Stone will be used on a portion of the street.

Wednesday evening there was a meeting of Andes business men, the object being to take some action with a view of booming Andes with all its natural advantages as an ideal summer resort….Now let everyone put their shoulder to the wheel and boom Andes

A band of hard looking Gypsies halted in the village Friday a short time with three wagons.
——————–
“Jack” F. C. Chamberlain’s dog in an encounter with a porcupine had his mouth and throat so completely filled with the quills that he had to be chloroformed.

S. J. Turnbull has received a carload of shingles which was shipped from Vancouver, and the freight on it was $416, the largest single freight bill ever paid in Andes.

Veterans Disappearing
Only ten old veterans were in the parade on Memorial day, and the attendance of citizens was not large. Something is certainly needed to inspire more patriotism, especially among the young men.

Mormons at Oneonta
Four elders of the Mormon church are in Oneonta and are holding street meetings each evening and trying to secure some converts. The tour attracts considerable attention by their excellent singing. At the close they invite all interested to call upon them and learn more about the teachings of Mormonism. During the day they do systematic canvassing for converts but none are yet reported.~
