Town of Andes Assessor Tina Moshier reminds taxpayers that applications for formal review of assessments must arrive in the assessment office by May 27, 2008. The required forms are available online at www.orps.state.ny.us or in the Assessor’s Office.Property owners are encouraged to examine the tentative assessment roll for information about their property, including assessment, estimated market value, and exemptions. The tentative roll is available in the Assessor’s Office from May 1, 2008 to May 27, 2008. The office is open from 9 am to 3 pm.
The Assessor’s Office continues to offer property owners the opportunity for informal review of their assessments. Whether property owners receive a change in assessed value or not, they can provide the Assessor with reasonable information that supports their opinion of value. The Assessor encourages property owners to research the sales information in the Assessor’s Office to determine the fairness of their assessments.
Assessor Tina Moshier reminds property owners that when comparing similar assessments, it is important to note that location, style, age, and size are critical to the comparison process. For example, a home purchased for $100,000 in a particular neighborhood should not be compared to a home purchased for $50,000 in a different neighborhood, nor should you compare a 5-year old house with a 45-year old house.
