At the March 11th Town Board meeting, Dave Ohlman of Delaware Engineering gave an update on plans for the construction of a new Highway Garage to replace the “existing, dated and sizably outgrown building.” Current plans call for an 8-bay garage, with a highway superintendent’s office, men’s and women’s restrooms, a records storage room and a break/lunch room. The design is to allow for future expandability if necessary, and will be economically and environmentally friendly, incorporating the use of NYSERDA approved fixtures and a high efficiency heating system, such as hydronic in-floor radiant heat. The Town would like the new facility to be operational by late fall, 2008. At this time, estimated costs total a bit more than $1.7 million. Further information on the plans, schedules, drawings and costs is available at Town Hall. The Town Board has approved the purchase of two new trucks, a Model 56001/SBA 6×6 and a Model 7500/SFA 4×4, for the Highway Department, which should be delivered this fall.

A few reminders for Andes residents came out of the monthly meeting. These include:

      1. Too much grease continues to make its way to the sewage treatment plant. Residents must be sure that they are not dumping grease down their drains.

      2. If you haven’t licensed your dog, please stop by Town Hall to do so.

      3. Town Board Meetings are open to the public, and are held on the 2nd Tuesday of each month unless otherwise noted in the Walton Reporter. From November through April, the meetings begin at 12:30 pm; from May through October, the start time is 7:30 pm. If you wish to address the Board at a meeting, call Town Hall by the Friday prior to the meeting so you can be put on the agenda.
