Tucked between rainy days, October 10th was a warm pleasant day, a perfect day for our last bus trip of 2007. We were joined on this trip by several from the Bovina and Fleischmann’s Senior Clubs. Leaving from Andes at 7:30 am we headed for the Honesdale, Pennsylvania Railroad Station. Coffee and crumb cake were served on arrival. When we boarded the train; the conductor announced a short delay as one of the other busses had broken down. The “short delay” got longer and longer. To help pass the time Elizabeth Barabas, a retired opera singer from the Fleischmann’s Club entertained us with an aria from the opera, Tosca. At last the bus arrived and the train ride was underway. We traveled along a waterway to Hawley where the bus was waiting to take us to the Ehrhardt Waterfront Resort on Lake Wallenpaupack. We were ushered into the dining room overlooking the lake and enjoyed a sumptuous family style dinner starting with appetizers, broccoli salad followed by entrees Yankee pot roast with potatoes, chicken and biscuits, baked codfish and mixed vegetables. Pitchers of coffee and apple cider were placed on each table. The meal ended with apple crisp. Next was a one-man show by Joey Vincent, a 25 year show-biz veteran. The show blended comedy, impressions, singing, dancing and trumpet playing. During the trumpet playing portion of the show he impersonated Herb Alpert, Harry James, Al Hirt and Louis Armstrong. A choice of vanilla or butter pecan ice cream cones were handed out on the way to the bus. A quiet, contented group relaxed on the ride back to Andes after a most enjoyable trip.

Also at the October meeting, we celebrated the season with a Halloween party. The young at heart showed up in costumes. Two witches (one a “witch with flair”), a naturalist, a Chinese woman, Little Red Riding Hood and a “cereal killer” elicited more laughter than fear Our meeting for this month is on November 15th at the Andes Methodist Church: The schedule will be the same as usual: dish-to-pass lunch at noon, program and meeting. We will be planning our annual Christmas Party for December. Please make an effort to attend. We welcome all Andes area seniors to attend any of our meetings and join our club.~
