THE NEWS IN AND ABOUT ANDES

Events of a Week as Chronicled by the Man on the Street

 ——–———————————

Cold, disagreeable weather continues.  Is the year 1816 to be repeated? [Ed: who in blazes would remember 1816 in 1907?]

——–———————————

Sabbath morning Mount Pisgah was white with snow, which could be plainly seen here.  Certainly very unusual for June 2.

——–———————————

Monday while Ed Hanlon was out in the interest of the Golden Seal his horse took French-leave. [Does anyone know more about the organization called the Golden Seal?]

The Hotel to be built for the Delaware & Eastern Railroad Company, at Andes, New York, is ready for bids.  Any General or Plumbing Contractor wishing to bid will send his name, address and his best and largest work completed within two years, together with the name and address of the owner of said building, to F. Y. Parsons, Architect, 1133 Broadway, New York City.   [Does anyone know if this hotel was ever built?]

Sulvan Frizzaori, who has had a shoe shop in the Witney block, went to Arena on Wednesday and will open a shop there.

——–———————————

The Village Trustees are making arrangements to extend the sidewalk to the depot.  The only practical place to run the walk is on the upper side of the road, thus avoiding the hauling of the heavy loads from the depot across it and saving the expense of a railing.

The most of our citizens take pride in keeping everything neat about their residences, and we trust that the few exceptions will improve.  Not only should the lawn be kept mowed but see that the grass along the ditches is also kept down along the entire front of your property. Pedestrians should also be careful not to litter the streets with paper, fruit peelings. etc.

Monday the Delaware & Eastern commenced carrying the mail for Andes and the new service gives two outgoing and two incoming mails daily, except Sunday.  The New York Dailies are received at 10:50.  Mails close at 7:41 a.m. and 1:50 p.m.  The stage still continues to run between Delhi and Margaretville.  The change makes much extra work for Postmaster Bruce in the making up of the pouches.~
