LIBRARY NOTES — December 2006

By Gloria Carlson

Holiday Greetings from the Andes Public Library to everyone in the Andes community and to all our friends and supporters near and far. During the fast paced holiday season, there might be some time to sit down with family and friends and watch a DVD or video. If so, you might find the video or DVD for you in the Andes Library’s movie collection. Our DVD collection is growing rapidly and includes family favorites such as the three Stuart Little movies, the Little Mermaid, Christmas with the Kranks and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. In our larger, regular DVD collection our new additions include: Thank You for Smoking, School of Rock, Akeelah and the Bee, Fever Pitch, Ray, Crash and Good Night and Good Luck. Remember that our DVDs and videos can be taken out for one week and there is no charge!

Be sure to come to the annual Tree Lighting Ceremony, Saturday December 9th at 4 pm in Bohlmann Park, (next to the Andes Library). Join us for traditional carol singing and of course, a visit from Santa.  Hot chocolate and cookies will be served at the Library. This is a perfect way to start the holiday season with your friends and neighbors in beautiful downtown Andes. Happy Holidays from all of us at the Andes Library!

Teaching artist and performer Dave Ruch entertained a packed crowd at the Andes Public Library on November 2nd with traditional and historic songs of New York.

TALES FOR TODDLERS

The Andes Library is now offering a story time geared for 2 – 4 year olds (though kids of all ages are welcome.)  Called “Tales for Toddlers,” it will run from 10:00 – 10:30 on Monday mornings.  “Tales for Toddlers” is in addition to the Library’s “Babies and Books” story time with Story Laurie on Tuesday afternoons.

Hosted by David Cyrelson, every session will involve the kids in stories, songs, and activities designed to develop the 6 key early literacy skills.

According to Cyrelson, “It’s so easy to just stay in during the winter.  But as the parent of a 4 year old and a 2 year old, I know the importance of the joy that story time can hold for a child.  I am delighted the Andes Library has decided to offer this to pre-schoolers in our area and I urge parents to bundle up their children and start the week with us.”
