The poetry reading, “Andes Celebrates National Poetry Month” is on Saturday, April 5 from 2-5 pm at the historic Andes Hunting Tavern.
Featured readers are Hal Sirowitz, Poet Laureate of Queens. He’s published numerous books of poetry including My Therapist Said and Mother Said (both from Crown, 1998, 1996), Word of Mouth: Poems Featured on NPR’s All Things Considered (Vintage, 2003). Before, During, and After – poems about sex & relationships – will come out in September 2003. Father Said came out in spring 2000, both published by Soft Skull Press.
Our second featured poet will be Janice King, reading from her debut book, Taking Wing:Poems from the Oregon Outback to the Hudson Valley, published by A Wyatt Book for Golden Notebook Press. King wowed the crowd at the 2002 Woodstock Poetry Festival.
Selected Andes Central School students will also be reading, along with recent graduate Cherie Fairbairn. Self-Portrait Poetry Anthology artists’ books will be on display.
Featured poets will sell and sign books. Refreshments will be served, and all will have a good time.
This event was funded in part by Poets & Writers, Inc. through a grant it has received from The New York State Council on the Arts. ~
